Flame-resistant underwear is an ideal replacement for synthetic underwear that can melt when your flight suit is exposed to flame. Research has shown that silk and synthetic materials used in commercial underwear can cause thermal injury. The have a low melting point that causes them to change from a solid to a liquid, to char, and even ignite.
Cotton, wool, and poly-cotton perform better than silk, nylon, or polyester, but the best alternative today is an inherently flame-resistant fabric such as Nomex® or Modacrylic.
Gibson & Barnes flame-resistant long underwear is made from a comfortable, hi-tech blend of 70% Modacrylic, 23% Tencel, and 7% Lycra knit. The fabric is not only flame-resistant, but is breathable, moisture-wicking, and anti-microbial as well. It is sewn with Nomex thread. Even the waistband is flame-resistant.
Underwear sizing is unisex and fits both men and women.
